The Onion has moved to Kinja, the CMS formerly used by Gawker and now known for powering Gizmodo, Splinter News, The A.V. Club and a whole host of other Univision blogs.
The move happened in late October, and while it is only a minor change for readers, it comes at a time of change for The Onion.
In September, Anthony Smith and Kelsey Sutton over at Mic reported that:
Two top editors at the Onion, a satirical news site, have resigned and will leave the company next month, the company confirmed to Mic.
Speaking of the move to Kinja on Fusion Media Group’s own Kinja blog, the company said:
Last year we announced all Fusion Media Group sites would soon be publishing on Kinja. The migration process started with The Root in January, Splinter in March, and our most recent migration being The A.V. Club less than two months ago. Now we’re back to report that we’ve added another site to our platform. Today we welcome The Onion to Kinja.
To summarise: Univision owns Fusion Media Group, which operates Gizmodo Media Group, which was previously known for building Kinja under the Gawker Media brand, which now powers The Onion and other Onion Network sites. Yikes, still a branding mouthful, huh.
