Grand Theft Auto VI costs $129.95 damn dollarydoos in Australia!

And that’s just the standard edition!

Rockstar Games opened pre-orders for the hotly anticipated GTA sequel overnight with a bang.

A standard release is available for AU$129.95, while an ‘Ultimate Edition’ costs a whopping AU$159.95.

Of course, if you adjust for inflation, these figures aren’t as crazy. But if you adjust for the lack of wage growth in many countries over the years, it’s still a big jump up from a $99.95 starting price in Australia just a few years back. Mix it in with console price increases and gaming suddenly becomes a lot more of a luxury than it was previously.

The ‘Ultimate Edition’ includes:

The physical release of GTA VI will also be just a code in a box, as opposed to any kind of disc. While this is likely some sort of security precaution to avoid the game leaking, it does seem to indicate that the title can’t be printed to disc early and may come in hot and buggy! Normally a game would need to be finalised in a playable form weeks or even months in advance to be able to be manufactured to a physical disc.
