Smartphone fingerprint scanners: they’re everywhere now. But LG is going to make the tech behind fingerprint scanning even more seamless.
The company’s LG Innotek group has announced a new sensor that can fit under the glass of a smartphone screen, meaning the scanner works without a button or much room at all.
LG Innotek cut a shallow furrow of 0.01inches (0.3mm) thick on the lower backside of the cover glass and installed the fingerprint sensor inside of it with using their supreme precision and combination technology. [Source]
The new module also helps with waterproofing and scratch resistance.
According to the Korea Times this could be available from LG and other devices “within a year”.
