WIN TV’s new watermark is crazy bad

WIN Television in Wollongong (and other regional areas) looks like it might be having one hell of an identity crisis.

The network, which used to rebroadcast the Nine Network, was forced to settle for broadcasting rights to Network Ten in July following a public spat. Specifically at the start of 2016 WIN lost a legal case against Nine which argued that 9Live.com.au was broadcasting WIN’s content, licensed from Nine, into Wollongong and other regional areas. WIN viewers could stream Nine shows without WIN’s ads or local news, and WIN was justifiably confused and angry about the situation.

Nine, in turn, cut ties to WIN following the spat and the rest is history.

Now, just as the dust started to settle on the July 1 switchover between Southern Cross Austereo, taking the Nine feed, and WIN TV, taking the Ten feed, this happened:

My favourite YouTube rabbit hole is TV presentation channels, and this particular video is a doozy. Just look at that new WIN watermark, which sits at the bottom of every WIN show now, in full colour and with no transparency. It’s legitimately almost funny until you try and watch a show on WIN.

In other news WIN TV is also starting to work episodes from its Crawford catalogue into Ten’s schedule. On Sunday night, for example, WIN is swapping out an episode of Modern Family for a special called ‘The Sullivans: A Walk Down Memory Lane’, effectively advertising WIN owned DVDs for an old TV show from the 70s.

Prime time indeed!
