SelfControl should come pre-installed on every Mac
App — Gloss has been a little quiet lately thanks to exam season, but I would be a lot more panicked right now without SelfControl. It’s a super simple, free Mac app that basically just blocks websites you want it to for a period of time. And especially if you’re using a web-app like Google Docs to do work it can let you totally focus on the task at hand.
Once you’ve started SelfControl’s timer you can’t stop it. Even a reboot won’t unblock the sites you’ve blacklisted. So it’s scarily powerful when it comes to habitual Facebook Messenger refreshes or obsessive Twitter checks. And since you can’t unblock the sites you’re essentially forced to do your work.
There’s almost certainly similar software available for Windows and Linux, but if you have a Mac and a lack of self control, SelfControl is the best free app out there.
Anyhow, time to reset my timer again. Ciao!
