New rePebble Smart Watch restricted by competition-averse Apple

Apple's self-preferencing hardware treatment strikes again with the new rePebble Smart Watch:

I want to set expectations accordingly. We will build a good app for iOS, but be prepared - there is no way for us to support all the functionality that Apple Watch has access to. It’s impossible for a 3rd party smartwatch to send text messages, or perform actions on notifications (like dismissing, muting, replying) and many, many other things.

In the same way AirPods are artificially "better" on iOS, through features like OS-level device switching and fancy pop-ups, other non-Apple hardware continues to be put at a disadvantage. Apple is the largest technology company by market cap and uses its duopoly with Google to limit competiton in many spaces, even when it offers an inferior product.
